Culturally Safe Care

Culturally Safe Care

The Purpose of this Project

The Australian Government and the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety recognise the need for older Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to receive culturally respectful and safe care.

When Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples live in mainstream communities, like Emmerton Park, it is important that staff who are not Aboriginal or from the Torres Strait Islands understand what culturally safe care entails and how to deliver such care.

This research project aims to help educate you about culturally safe care. In particular, to understand the impact of learning from Elders about such care through listening to five 16-20 minute podcasts they have developed, watching five 10-minute videos they have made, and having the opportunity to yarn with Elders about your experiences.

The Benefits of Taking Part

By taking part, you will help us understand more about how best to educate non-Aboriginal people about delivering culturally safe care and the impact of Elder-led learning.

We hope you will gain value and satisfaction from helping to develop needed education for non-Aboriginal healthcare providers who work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples with dementia.
